What follows applies to deskloosen.com, where Deskloosen publishes Deskloosen. It covers what we collect, who else is involved, and the rights you hold.
Your Choices
Your rights depend on your jurisdiction, but broadly: access, correction, erasure, portability, objection, and opt-out of sale or sharing for targeted advertising. UK/EU readers hold these under GDPR; readers in California and other US states hold equivalents under CCPA/CPRA and comparable laws. A Global Privacy Control signal is treated as a valid opt-out. Further detail: State Privacy Notice and Do Not Sell or Share.
Storage and Safeguards
We hold data only as long as the purpose requires. Subscriber records end at unsubscribe; comments end at deletion; analytics follow the retention window of whichever provider is in use. Safeguards include access control and transport encryption. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and we do not claim to.
Browser Storage
Rather than duplicate it here, cookie detail lives in our Cookie Policy.
Where advertising is served, third-party vendors including Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
Processing Purposes
It is used to run the site, to improve what we publish by seeing which pages are read, to honour newsletter subscriptions, and to serve advertising where that is in place.
Age of Readers
This site is written for adults. It is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that threshold), we do not knowingly collect data from them, and if we learn we have, we delete it.
Our Newsletter
Mailing-list signup requires confirmation from the address given, which stops anyone subscribing you without your knowledge. Unsubscribe links and a postal address appear in every message, and we do not pass the list to anyone.
Categories of Data
Some information arrives without you doing anything: standard web-server and analytics records covering IP address, device, browser, rough location and pages viewed. Other information arrives because you sent it — newsletter signups, comment fields, and email correspondence. There is one niche-specific commitment behind this policy — we ask readers not to send us sensitive personal details, and we delete rather than retain anything of that kind that reaches us unprompted.
Service Providers
Outside services may sit behind this site: our host, an analytics tool, an email provider used only if you subscribe, and advertising partners where ads run. Their handling of data is governed by their own policies, and for advertising and analytics vendors that means they act as independent controllers, not merely as processors on our behalf.
